# Microsoft Details Windows 10

Microsoft held a press event today to detail a number of its plans for the year, including offering new details about its next major operating system update, Windows 10. The theme of the presentation is that it will be easier than ever for developers to create apps that work across a wide array of devices, from PCs to phones to the Xbox One.

One important note is that, for a year after it launches, Windows 10 will be a free upgrade to anyone running Windows 7 or 8. This is big news for a company that used to charge full price for version updates.

On the Office front, the new version of Office will run in a mostly unified manner across PC, tablets, and phones. This means you won’t lose much functionality no matter which device you access the suite of apps on.
