# SIMnet and Heartbleed Bug Impact

Dear SIMnet Instructors,

As you are probably already aware, a security vulnerability known as the Heartbleed bug was discovered on April 7th, 2014 (<http://goo.gl/D5QBo9>). Limelight Networks, our content delivery network vendor for SIMnet and handles the SSL encryption/decryption for us, quickly acted and patched this vulnerability as of April 8th, 2014 at 1pm MST (<http://blog.limelight.com/2014/04/limelight-response-to-the-heartbleed-bug/>).

This does NOT mean anyone had access to the SIMnet database as the database is behind a dedicated firewall that is not available from the public internet. The SIMnet ecommerce was also not impacted, because it uses a non-open source SSL.

In an abundance of caution, we recommend that you and your students change your SIMnet password. If the SIMnet admin disabled the ability for the students to change their passwords, the SIMnet admin can re-enable it through the Settings menu.\

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.simnetonline.com/blog/2014-posts/simnetandheartbleedbugimpact.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
