New Features Released: Learning due dates, closed book exams and more!

On Friday, March 14, 2014 a number of new features were released to all users. It may be necessary to clear your local browser cache to ensure no stale files exist. The new features are: 1. Exam assignments now include an “allow open book” preference, 2. Lesson, SIMbook and resource assignments now support due dates, 3. The Let Me Try feedback dialog is now movable, 4. SIMbook assignment details page in the Student Portal now includes an image of the book cover.

Allow Open Book Exam Preference

The allow open book exam preference allows instructors to prevent (or allow) access to all learning material while an exam is in progress. The default setting is off, so all exams are closed book. To allow an open book exam:

  1. Edit the exam assignment you would like to allow open book:

  2. Select the Class****Assignments or StudentAssignments.

  3. Select your class and click Edit.

  4. Select the allow open book preference

  5. Click Save.

If a student attempts to open a lesson, SIMbook or the Library they will be blocked and have the option to either view the exam information or launch directly from the notification. The blocked screen looks like this:

Lessons, SIMBooks and Resources Support Due Dates

Lesson, SIMbook and Resource assignments now support due date. The default due date was set to equal the current end date. If you would like to modify the due date:

  1. Edit the assignment you would like to edit the due date for:

  2. Select the Class****Assignments or StudentAssignments.

  3. Select your class and click Edit.

  4. Set the due date.

  5. Click Save.

Movable Let Me Try Dialog

The Let Me Try feedback dialog is now movable in 2013 Lessons and SIMbooks. This allows students to view all portions of the background document.

SIMbook Assignment – Includes Book Cover

SIMbook assignment details page in the Student Portal now includes an image of the book cover. This helps reinforce which textbook the assignment relates to.
